Tony, and others: how do you go about setting up a successful group (Linkedin?) for the type of people below.
Thanks,
Tony
As a Christain charity we operate in a number of countries that you can't be a 'missionary'. The main way to be able to work in those countries is by creating business opportunities for our workers and the local community. (Things like a vegetable oil processing plant or a web design training company).
We are looking to engage with Christian business professionals who would be interested in running, advising or providing venture capital for these businesses.
As I see it there are two parts. The technology, which is create group in Linked in. You then have the community service part. Some thoughts listed below
- a firm foundation as to why you are setting up the group
- list what will be the benefit to the members
- get a core of active member to start it.
Then you are off... ensure you check back each day to help invigorate.
Be true to yourself and let people know what you want and go with the flow.
For me: I see the community as the members not mind, you are in the community to serve the members, not the other way round.
That's helpful.
Quite a few of these people are in our "Harry" persona, early retired. Others are "Petes" experienced people with a few hours to spare here and there, and maybe a week to visit a project.
Most "Harrys" have a solid grasp of the basics (web, email, skype) but I wouldn't expect to find them social networking or twittering. The "Pete's" However could be there.
Sorry if the persona thing makes no sense to others here - Ask Tony - It's market segmentation on steriods!
