Which Social Networks should a Social Media Professional be in?

There are just stacks of Social Networking sites so how do you pick one? Which ones are useful for the professional when you have a job to do? Which invites do you just delete a spam?

I find Linked in useful, and of course this site. But have not seen many others for general use. I have been spammed by Plaxo and Naymz but just deleted them.

Thoughts?

Hi Tony,

Some friends of mine are using http://www.xing.com/ but I've never tried it. I am planning to give it a go..
Will let you know if I find it useful or not.

Have a nice day!

www.twitter.com and www.friendfeed.com and www.slideshare.com are some that I find useful. More than four and I can't get any "real" work done!

I am in twitter, linkedin, facebook, and myspace as well as maintaining a blog. I agree with Leslie, that if you are in too many of them you can't accomplish anything significant. You have to limit your approach.

Thanks Jason,

I was thinking of making the Ning site (this one) a resource site only, but recently there has been more community interaction in this environment. I also like the public nature of this site.

We will keep things really simple, NIG and Linkedin

NING seems to be trying to turn itself into a Facebook with the new www.ning.com dashboard page.
